WALNUT IN 1879
“The Presbytery of Council Bluffs convened in the rapidly growing town of Walnut, April 17. Nothing better exhibits the marvelous development of Western Iowa than the growth of one of its towns like Walnut. When I saw it a few years ago there were half a dozen houses here; now it has the proportion and activity of a growing town of eight hundred inhabitants. The meeting of Presbytery was quite an event here. There were present thirty-five delegates. Ten years ago there would not have been over five from the same territory. The opening sermon was preached by Rev. J. B. Welty, of Logan, on ‘The prevalent forms of unbelief.’ Rev. C. H. DeLong, Creston, was elected moderator, and Rev. R. H. Cunningham, clerk.” (The Walnut News, April 24, 1879)
