VISITORS AND QUERIES
BY KAREN HANSEN
Kevin Myers of Petersburg, Indiana visited Walnut 20 years ago, looking for the burial plot in the Layton Township Cemetery of his 2nd great-grandmother Caroline YARBROUGH, her daughter Viola SHEETZ and Viola’s daughter Mary. He was not successful, because there is no marker for them. We received an email request and were able to locate the deed for the plot which the family bought, so that Kevin can place a marker there. We also found obituaries and death records for him.
Darlene Hess from Harlan visited the library seeking the location of the unmarked graves of Enos and Elizabeth BARTLETT and of the plot purchased by J. HAMILTON in 1881. Librarian Judy Schrecengost was able to help her with the locations. We will try to discover who is buried in the Hamilton plot.
Leroy and Carolyn Clark from Oskaloosa, Iowa visited looking for information on Henrietta VAN BECK. Jim and Karen Hansen helped them find her land in section 23 in Valley Township, Pottawattamie County on a 1902 plat map. They also copied some Hancock photos.
Kathie Roskom from Avon Lake, Ohio was in the genealogy room seeking information on C. F. JACOBSEN, Jacob and Catherine REIMERS. She has been finding dozens of articles about the Jacobsens in the Walnut newspapers online. She plans to have us do some research for her in the future.
Diane Greve from Minneapolis, Minnesota visited looking for the graves of the GREVE family in the Layton Township Cemetery. She is looking at the Walnut newspapers online to see what information she can find.
We received an email from Tim Hansen, who grew up in Manning, Iowa and now lives in the Kansas City area. He wanted information on Otto Peter and Anna D. HANSEN, his 3rd great-grandparents, who are buried here. We told him that they are on findagrave and gave him the address of the Walnut newspapers online, where he found Otto’s obituary.
