OBITUARY FOR THOMAS E. PETERSEN
Beloved Husband of WGS Member Marietta Peterson
Thomas Edward Petersen, age 66, of Marne (IA), passed away at his home on August 28, 2004. Thomas was born February 10, 1938, north of Marne, the son of Hans Thomas and Christina “Tina” Kleen Petersen.
Tom graduated from the Marne Grade School and attended high school in Atlantic.
He was a farmer and a lifelong Marne resident.
On April 23, 1972, Thomas married Marietta A. Venz at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.
Tom was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and loved his Lord. He was often heard to say, “The man upstairs will take care of things.” Tom’s life revolved around the outdoors and the simple things of life. He enjoyed farming his crops, raising his cattle, as well as fishing. Tom’s pride and joy was his red Chevy stock truck. One of his and Marietta’s favorite pastimes was relaxing under a shade tree. He was a former member of the Farm Bureau.
Tom was survived by his wife, Marietta, of Marne; two sisters and their husbands, Veronica and Ted Brown of Des Moines, Iowa, and Pearl and Karol Wilbur of Sun City, Arizona, as well as cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard Petersen and a sister, Dorothy Petersen.
Funeral services were held on August 31, 2004 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic with the Reverend Leon Hodges officiating.
Committal services and interment were in the Brighton Township Cemetery in Marne, Iowa.
