WANDERINGS FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

AS WE GET OLDER WE REALIZE
I talk to myself, because sometimes I need expert advice.
An older brother of mine used to talk to himself and he claimed he learned a lot that way. When researching at Elk Horn in the Family History Center, some of us talk out loud and someone may answer with, “Have you tried this?” Other times we may hear, “Was I supposed to be listening?” Sometimes two heads are better than one.
The biggest lie I tell myself is “I don’t have to write that down, I’ll remember it.”
How many times do you forget what to tell someone, because you did not write it down? Two days later you ask “Did I tell you?” We wonder how many things our families did not write down. “No one needs to know about such things.”
I do try to record what is going on around the family and the farm operation. I record the temperature each day, high and low, rain amounts, snow, and humidity. Even how many times the lawn gets cut and if I do go out and pull weeds. Once in a while one of the guys may ask did you write down such and such?
Wouldn’t it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes and come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller?
When we look at pictures of our grandparents in their later years, do we sometimes wonder what they may have looked like in younger days? I never knew my grandmothers but they do say that I look like my mother’s mother. Both of my grandfathers to me were always “old” looking. Do you suppose we look old to our grandchildren?
“Getting Lucky” means walking into a room and remembering why I’m there. Now days we laugh about such things when that happens to us, but how did our ancestors feel when that happened to them? Did they wonder if they were getting forgetful or what was happening to them? Now I think we have so much on our minds that we don’t concentrate on what we are doing and that is why sometimes when we go from room to room, we forget what was on our mind to do.
