BEFORE WALNUT HAD ITS OWN NEWSPAPER

A couple of Avoca chaps had a lively time going to Walnut last Sunday, with balky horses. Such getting up hill was never known before.

The following we observed posted in several places around town. “NOTICE Ther [There] will be a Ball in Walnut on tursday [Thursday] night 30th November. We ask the ladies and gentlemen of Evoca [Avoca] to come and have ther [their] sport.” If the boys can disregard such an appeal as that, they must be hard hearted indeed.

Hickory nuts are selling in Walnut at two dollars per bushel.

Whiskey and another man had a big fight in Walnut last Saturday.  (November 30, 1876, p. 3)

A large amount of corn is now being cribbed at Walnut.  (December 7, 1876, p. 3)

Chas. Councilman, of Atlantic, was married to Miss Mary J. Harris, of Walnut last week. Is it not about time for Walnut to incorporate? (December 14, 1876, p. 3)
