FAMILY SEARCH WIKI & NYC VITAL RECORDS
The FamilySearch Research Wiki is a free, online genealogical guide created and maintained
by FamilySearch, a non-profit organization. It contains links to genealogy databases, websites,
other resources, research strategies, and genealogical guidance to assist in the search for your
ancestors. Articles included are locality pages for countries around the world and topic pages that
include pertinent genealogy record types explaining how to use the record, what it contains, and
how to find it. There are currently over 102,000 articles with approximately 100 articles added
per day. Nearly 1.5 million people have registered to use the site. To use the Research Wiki, go

“The New York City Municipal Archives is home to millions of vital records for its city’s
residents, past and present. After years of severely restricting access, the Archives has launched
a new NYC Historical Vital Records Project https://a860-historicalvitalrecords.nyc.gov. At
launch, this mass-digitization project included 9.3 million historical birth, death and marriage
records, with 4 million more to come.
Records date from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s, with coverage of all five boroughs. You can
search images by name or certificate number, or browse by borough, year range, or certificate
type. The Archives also fulfills individual record search orders for a fee; if they find the
requested record isn’t yet digitized, staff will do so.”
