VISITORS AND QUERIES
BY KAREN HANSEN
In my column in our last Antique City Roots, Itold about Maud SANKEY’S Bible and included a photo of both sides of the old bookmark that was found in the Bible. The bookmark, which was donated by Wayne Sankey, advertised Berry Bros. Druggist, Walnut, Iowa. Does anyone know about the Berry brothers or know of any descendants who would like to have the bookmark?
Jim BRINDLEY from Elk River, Minnesota had asked for information on Chris and Hazel (McCuen) LUND, parents of Tiny Lund. I found the obituary of Tiny in the Harlan paper at the Harlan Library. His grave and those of his parents were found in Moncks Corner, South Carolina by using findagrave.com. Jim Brindley is interested in having Joshua Brindley’s gravestone at Monroe Methodist Cemetery engraved again to make it more readable.
The Cass County Genealogical Society is searching for the burial place of Shepley WILSON, who died on April 29, 1900. The Cass County death record says that he was buried at Kimling. Where could that be? There was a Kemling in Grove Township, Pottawattamie County. Jim and I visited by phone with Wilbur and Lucy Yeager who own the land around where the Kemling store stood. She was a KEMLING and said that many Kemlings are buried in Center Ridge Cemetery, just southeast of Kemling. Perhaps Shepley Wilson was buried there, although we have not been able to locate him in an index of the cemetery. Barb Butcher was not able to find an obituary in The Griswold American or any information about Shepley at the Oakland Library.
Richard Holliday of Mud Lake, Idaho phoned me. He was looking for information on his great-great-grandfather Adolph LEBECK. We put him in touch with Carole LEBECK Schroder of Walnut, who has done extensive research on their common family.
