VISITORS AND QUERIES
BY KAREN HANSEN
Ruth Reid Anderson from Wisconsin called the library seeking information on her grandparents Hans and Anna KAHL. I sent Layton Township maps from 1885, 1902, and 1919, showing the location of Hans Kahl’s farm southwest of Walnut. I also sent obituaries of August, Fred, Charles, William and Julius Kahl; the death record of Charles; and the 1885 Census record of Hans and Annie Kahl and their family.
Janet Nystrom from Sioux Falls, South Dakota is still hoping to find nice obituaries for Hans and Christina JOHANNSEN, who died at Prairie Rose. The Walnut newspaper had a short obit for Christina and their funerals were listed in the German Lutheran church records.
Barb and Bob Gehrke from Wisconsin visited the genealogy room and were excited to find many obituaries and German Lutheran church records for her FELDHAHN relatives. She is also researching WHEATLEY, McFADDEN, and Theodore LEBECK.
Our new member from Red Oak, Iowa, Lois Trinity visited the genealogy room to gather information on her RABENSTEIN and WILLMS families.
Arnold and Shirley Carbuhn from Waco, Texas came in to research CARBUHN, BURMEISTER, and SCHEEF. Jim and I found maps and photos that he would like copies of from Rick Blum’s books. Many family names were found in the Peace Church records. Arnold was especially happy to find that the middle name of his great-grandfather Hugo Carbuhn was Arnold, the same as his first name. We even found his signature on his draft registration card.
We are very appreciative of the donation of their family history from Marlene and Lee Overton of Vinton, Iowa. Lee and his daughter Ann even delivered the 10 storage totes to the genealogy room on May 28. Surnames that they have researched include Overton, Fennern, Pauley, Brindley, Clark, Worthington, Engel, Trego, Coppess, Chartensen, Soul and Guthrie. It is a treasure trove of useful information for our genealogy society.
