WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN WALNUT, IOWA IN 1916

THE CEMETERY TENT

The most cordial appreciation and heartiest thanks of the community are due to Mr. Lee Staman for his compassion and persistent efforts to secure the tent to shelter the people at the grave of departed friends.  It shelters the man who prepares the grave from the burning heat and the storms of wind, rain and snow.  It is large enough to shelter a large company of mourners and friends and no rain falls into the grave upon the casket.

It was used for the first time at the funeral of Mr. Millard Pope, January 22.

When the grave is finished the tent is folded up and laid away until needed again.  If some one would provide a small truck to carry it to the cemetery house and wheel it inside where it would be ready for use at a moments notice, the thing would be almost perfect.
